Real Geeks Ride

» By popular demand, and in support of Real Geeks Ride and their upcoming journey, this entry lives!  I originally created this entry that read “Ignore. To be deleted soon.” to test a feedburner function.  All it took was one eBay-ish comment to remind me that I’ve been wanting to write this for a while ;) :

Carlos Urreta and Joe Philipson – two self-proclaimed geeks from Hawaii – are setting on a 3,000+ mile journey across the U.S. to convince 1,000 geeks to ride their bikes to work instead of driving.  Impressive!

Help cheer them on by:

  • Riding your bike to work and letting them know that you’ve changed your lifestyle! (I’m working on it too… hush.)
  • Host them for a night or two along their journey between May 20 and August 3, somewhere in America.
  • Cheer them on along the way or meet up with them in Portland, Oregon on August 3 for a community ride to Seaside.

I wish I could recall where I first heard of these guys… perhaps it was a re-tweet or twitscoop find.  Regardless, I’m personally hoping they’ll blog, gps and log their journey by photos as they go!   Good luck!

OC Tweetup

I’m amazed at the number of apps that have come about from the want and need to communicate in 140 characters or less.  The most recent set comes from Twtapps, which include Twtvite, Twtpoll and Twtcard.

I’ve seen a few Twtvite’s going around this week surrounding CES in Las Vegas, so I thought I’d give it a try:

For the hell of it, to test twtvite. I’ll be there for about 1/2 hour to browse, or longer if ppl show. RSVP to let me know u’ll be there!

Where? Starbucks, Barnes & Noble Tustin Marketplace

When? Tuesday, Jan 13

What time? 5:30 p.m.

And here’s a fairly extensive list of other Twitter apps at Twitter Fan Wiki.  I wonder if there’s a list or commentary out there of the most innovative and useful applications of Twitter?

Bonne Année

Happy 2009! Perhaps the title is wishful thinking for a trip abroad in 2009.

Everything’s been a constant blur since about mid-2006, so I’m hoping that 2009 will be more defined than the past couple of years.

Some of what I hope to accomplish this year (in no particular order):

  • Tweet and blog more (yes, that is possible)… and not just in quantity, but also in quality.  In the first 101 days for 2009, I hope to tackle @chrisbrogan‘s 100 blog topics to write about.
  • Harness the power of social networking and social media.  Become more engaged so that I can learn, stay in the loop, and do more good.
  • Start a business venture, and get it live and kicking.  Whether it be Dilettante Hostess or something else.  I’ve made a lot of good friends over the last few years that share similar interests, and I’d like to share such an experience with others.
  • Pleasure reading.  With classes done, I hope to have time to read the long list of books that have accumulated over the last three years on my Amazon Wishlist.
  • Accomplish an athletic feat.  Either a sprint triathlon or skiing blue runs.  And also find ways to engage my dog, Chibi, more in outdoor activities.
  • Compile my recipes into a CC-licensed book.
  • And much more that I am not thinking of at the moment….

In one sense, I would like 2009 to take it’s time so that I may accomplish all these things.  On the other hand, I can’t wait for 2010 to come because that means @Padrepablo will be done with school and we can pick up with our lives together again.

Snow Angel and Snowman

Growing up in Southern California, I never really experienced snow.  So @Padrepablo and my siblings-in-law took me up to Steamboat Lake, near Columbine, CO today to make my first snow angel (McDevil) and snowman (Steamy).

Here it is documented:

Steamy the Snowman

Intrigue v6.0 and WordPress 2.7

One of my winter break projects is to fix the myriad of messed up links, missing images, and multiple “pages” on this blog right now.

Not a completely smooth transition to merge Lost in Mastication with Voix de Novice. But it was fairly easy once @Padrepablo helped me get the .xml file from an older WordPress.

Posting this from the QuickPress tool on WordPress 2.7. I like the new upgrades and features!
