RIP: Opera Pacific

My parents have been patrons and season ticket holders to the Opera Pacifc.  I secretly looked forward to the performances that they could not attend because that meant I had free seats!

In fact, I was really looking forward to Grapes of Wrath in January.  Yes, of John Steinbeck fame.  But alas, OP has fallen victim to the hard economic times according to the OC Register.  OP’s Web site has no indication of its demise yet.

Too bad, because I has just started getting over the “opera is boring” hump and began to appreciate it.

Funny to think that this past July a head hunter for OP called to ask if I’d be interested in a marketing-communications job there.  Obviously, I did not pursue it.

Some pics from a donor appreciation event for Mozart’s Magic Flute this past season.

Fresh Air: Presidential Health Care Policies

It gives a good overview of the two proposals, both from an economic and political perspective, which I enjoyed.

I know where I stand on the issues, but I invite you to make your own opinion by listening to the Fresh Air episode, A Partisan Divide on Health Care.

Links to the proposals from the candidates’ campaign pages:

In contrast, the VP views on health care reform:

Why do I care so much?  Health care is a basic human right and how we as Americans handle it is literally a do or die issue.

Half Life

I’ve been waiting 20+ years to tell my Dad “Happy Half Life or Double Life Day”… and he beat me to it!

I’m exactly half my dad’s age today, 08/07/08…

It took me some time after breakfast one weekend day with my Dad to figure out when this day would be.  2008 seemed way too far in the future.  I couldn’t even begin to imagine today.
